I have a dream

Ég á mér draum

I have a dream that people give beautiful used products as a gift, such as a Christmas presents, birthday presents, etc.

2 years ago, I never would have believed that I would say this out loud. I was stuck in the consumerism that I unfortunately think too many people are also stuck in. It would never have occurred to me to give something used to anyone except for charity/donation and then I would make it clear to the receiver that its used. I'm from the generation that grew up thinking it was important to get new clothes for Christmas and new clothes for the first day of school. This a contradiction because my parents' generation was not wealthy, but it was still considered extremely important.

When I opened Gallerí Fló, the idea was not to become a great empire, we were just going to have a market for one weekend. But since then, a lot of water has flowed to the sea and I myself have changed a lot during the operation of this company. What has changed the most for me is my attitude towards used goods because I have witnessed first hand how many beautiful things exist in society that their owners are forced to put in the trash.

I have saved countless beautiful antiques and historical items by offering my service at Gallerí Fló.

But it is not enough to save these things because the space is not endless. We need consumers, buyers of these things who see the value in these items. And there lies the knife in the cow, unfortunately I think we Icelanders have a long way to go before we can say that we appreciate used items over new ones. However, the young generation is leading the way and fortunately have the right mindset when it comes to recycling.

But I still have a dream that people give beautiful used items as presents.
