About Gallerí Fló - how did it all begin?

How did it all begin and where are we today.

Aldís

The founder and owner of Gallerí Fló is Aldís Björgvinsdóttir, business analyst. She had worked for many years in the software world as a requirement analyst, project manager and software product owner. She has often wondered why she finally had the confidence in her 60s (50s) to start her own business. It can be said that a certain midlife crisis and a lot of self-work in the previous years made the timing somewhat more correct.

Aldís had dreamed of being able to shop for second-hand items, but she usually got so turned off in such stores. Usually when she went into a thrift store, she found the smell and presentation of the products so that her mind began to wonder who had owned in the item and so on. Her feeling was often that there was not much emphasis on selling the products to customers, as products were often dirty, crumpled, damaged and set up so that the person needed hours to find treasures. Also, Aldís has never liked shopping and found it stressful, and she often gives up on a shopping trip and ends her trips in a cafe or bar. She often wondered why the cafe or bar was not inside the shops and why it is not more encouraging to shop and sell used goods. It wasn't until Aldís bought a coat for her son in a thrift store and discovered when she got home that the zipper was broken. She asked herself "Is this okay, is there no end of life or duty of information to consumers in this world?" She then decided to open her own market with used goods that met all her requirements so she could shop used items herself.

Gallerí Fló began operations in October 2023 in a temporary building at the Reykjavík Sports Association (ÍR) and was supposed to be a pop-up retail outlet for consumer goods. The dream was to travel to various different locations with this market. Due to demand and satisfaction with the market, the market expanded and went from being a pop-up market to being a temporary store with a location.

The basis for the store was to create a used goods store that emphasized good condition of the products, organization and full service to the sellers. In addition to creating a platform for used and sportsteam branded sportswear that had previously been sitting in the owners' storage. The store had a small lounge where pour-over coffee was offered while guests and passersby could shop and watch sports games and practices out the window.

At the beginning of 2024, we had the opportunity to move to Gufunes, Reykjavík in even larger premises and became the first service company in the area with the loyal support of the then landlord. We opened a barista café under the Kaffitár brand, collaborated with a chef in the premises and began selling food while also being an agent for consumer goods. Aldís also created a platform for aspiring musicians to present themselves with concerts in the store, created a wall that displayed the “Artist of the Month” where the person in question could introduce themselves and show their art for free. Aldís created “Shop, dine & hang out” for groups who want to experience shopping and coziness in a peaceful environment outside of opening hours. Through this concept, 50th birthdays, book launch parties, stag parties, sewing club meetups, “reunions” and more have been held in Gallerí Fló.

Life happens and Gallerí Fló was forced to close in an instant in July 2024 despite good success. Today we are located in Seljahverfi, Reykjavík and operate the store as an online store and a streaming store that provides private shopping.

2025 Streaming Store

Today, Gallerí Fló is a streaming store. This means that all of our products are in our online store and you have 4 options to shop:

1. Shop and get delivered. Shop online and have it delivered to you anywhere in the country with Dropp.

2. Shop and pick up. Shop online and pick up the product at our location in Seljaherfið, Reykjavík.

3. Come to us to view/fit. Come prepared to us and view/fit the products you are interested in before you decide to buy. Then we want you to prepare yourself in your most comfortable environment by viewing the products on www.galleriflo.is (English: www.galleriflo.is/en ), sending us a screenshot or link to the product/products you are interested in, or even calling us (we are on Facebook Messenger, Instagram Messages, email info@galleriflo.is or by phone. 6913500). We will contact you immediately and together we will determine a time. Here are all days of the week and times available as long as it suits you and us.

4. We bring Gallerí Fló to you. This works in the same way as option 3 but instead of you coming to us we will bring the items to you to view.
